NTF Mulls Junior Events in National Tournaments

The Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF) has announced plans to incorporate junior events into all national tournaments in the country.
The move is aimed at nurturing young talents and promoting the development of tennis in the country.
NTF President, Ifedayo Akindoju disclosed this to newsmen on Saturday in Abuja, at the closing of the VEMP National Open Tennis Championship.
According to Akindoju, the move is expected to boost the growth of tennis in the country.
“This initiative will not only provide a platform for young players to showcase their skills but also be cost-effective for the federation while providing opportunities for young players to gain valuable experience and exposure.
“This decision comes after realising the importance of nurturing young talents in Nigerian tennis,” he said.
The president said he will go back to the boards of the federation and will ensure it becomes a policy soon.
“I want every national tournament that the federation will have to equally have a junior event attached to it, it is even going to be cheaper for us to run such event ,” he said.
He said that NTF aims to make junior events a staple in all national tournaments, providing a platform for young players to showcase their skills.
“I believe that running junior events alongside national tournaments will be more cost-effective than hosting separate events,” he said.
Akindoju expressed his enthusiasm and satisfaction with the recent tournament, particularly the men’s singles final between Daniel Adeleye and Lucky Danjuma.
Adeleye emerged victorious, winning the match 7-6, 6-2.
