The Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) Worldwide, the apex socio-cultural body of the Urhobo people, has formally withdrawn its petition against Tantita Security Services Limited, signaling a move toward amicable resolution of the issues surrounding the company’s operations in Urhobo land.

In a letter dated July 7, 2025, addressed to the National Security Adviser and copied to the Chief of Defence Staff, the service chiefs, and Senator Ede Dafinone (representing Delta Central), the UPU stated that new information had emerged which significantly altered the context of its earlier concerns.

The letter, titled “Withdrawal of Earlier Letter and Resolution of Issues Related to Tantita Security Operations in Urhobo Land”, was signed by the President General of the UPU, Olorogun Ese Gam. It emphasized the Union’s commitment to dialogue and peaceful engagement.

“We refer to our earlier letter dated June 2, acknowledged on June 24 by Isa Haruna, regarding the activities of Tantita Security Services in Urhobo land,” the statement read. “We want to emphatically state that the information available to us at the time of writing the initial letter has since changed.”

Gam explained that following a series of constructive engagements between the UPU and Tantita Security Services, the Union has gained a better understanding of the company’s operations and intentions, prompting a reassessment of its earlier position.

“In light of updated insights and a broader understanding of the situation, we have decided to withdraw our earlier petition,” the UPU stated. “We are now focused on resolving the matter through mutual dialogue and cooperation.”

The UPU expressed appreciation to the relevant authorities for their attention to the matter and reaffirmed its commitment to peace, unity, and security within the Urhobo nation and the Niger Delta at large.

“We thank you for your continued support and commitment to peace and security in our region,” the statement concluded.
