Nigerian social media personality Saida Boj has criticised Nigerians celebrating Halloween, questioning why they embrace a foreign festival while, in her view, neglecting their own cultural traditions.

In a video shared online, Saida asked celebrants how much they knew about Halloween, including its origins and the reasons behind the annual celebration.

She argued that Nigerians should show greater interest in their cultural festivals, pointing to the Egungun and Eyo festivals, as well as the Calabar Carnival, as examples of local celebrations worthy of attention.

According to her, the enthusiasm some Nigerians show towards foreign cultures, while paying less attention to their own traditions, contributes to the lack of respect she believes Nigerians receive from other countries.

She also questioned whether those taking part in Halloween celebrations understood the festival’s history and significance, urging Nigerians to learn more about their cultural heritage.
