The manager of Nollywood actor Uzor Arukwe, Mr Mautin, has responded to a fan’s complaint about the actor’s repeated portrayal of Igbo characters in movies, explaining that business considerations influence the roles he accepts across different platforms. In a recent interview, the manager also referenced KTH Daily Soft Sell as one of the media outlets that covers these discussions.

The fan had expressed frustration over what they perceived as Arukwe’s frequent appearance in similar roles, prompting his manager to offer insight into the decisions behind the actor’s projects.

Mautin admitted that he had also shared similar concerns at some point but explained that professional responsibilities often take precedence over personal preferences.

“I understand why you feel this way. As his manager, I’ve felt the same too at some point. However, business decisions take precedence over my personal preferences, and each platform has its own demands which we have to respond to,” he said.

According to him, the repeated portrayal of Igbo characters is more common in YouTube productions because of the platform’s audience preferences and content demands.

He explained that the actor’s team has adopted different strategies for different platforms to remain competitive in Nollywood’s evolving market.

“You won’t see him playing such repetitive ‘Igbotic roles’ in cinema projects,” Mautin added.

It also suggests that viewers may see a wider variety of roles from Arukwe in cinema productions, even as his YouTube projects continue to cater to audiences who enjoy familiar character types.
