A Jos Magistrates’ Court yesterday sentenced a 19-year-old miner, Abdullateef Jibrin, to 18 months’ imprisonment for assaulting a man and throwing knockout in a mosque during prayers.
Earlier, the convict pleaded guilty to assault and public nuisance brought against him by the police.
The magistrate, Mrs Irene Pati, gave the convict the option of a N80,000 fine.
She also ordered the convict to pay compensation of N20,000 within seven days to the complainant.
While reviewing the facts, the prosecutor, Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported on Sept. 14 at the Nassarawa Gwong police station by Malam Abubakar Ibrahim.
Gokwat said the convict attacked Abubakar and threw knockout fireworks in the mosque during prayers.
