Social media activist VeryDarkMan has criticised Afrobeats singer Davido over his involvement in politics, warning Nigerians against allowing their admiration for celebrities to influence their voting decisions.

In a video shared on his Instagram page, VeryDarkMan’s comments followed Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s public declaration of support for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re election bid.

Adeleke, who is Davido’s uncle, made the pledge during the inauguration of the Tinubu/APC Campaign Council on Wednesday, October 14, 2026. The governor also danced onto the stage to one of Davido’s songs, drawing cheers from the audience.

Reacting to the development, VeryDarkMan questioned Davido’s political interventions, alleging that the singer only becomes vocal about Osun State politics when his uncle faces an electoral challenge.

“All the tweets Davido was making during the Osun State election were just blackmail. Why do you need a celebrity to tell you or convince you on who to vote for? Nigerians should not let their love for a celebrity make them vote for someone,” he said.

He further challenged Davido to explain what his uncle had done for the people of Osun State, claiming the singer was not sufficiently familiar with developments in the state.

Addressing the singer directly, VeryDarkMan said, “You are a user. You use your fans to your advantage. Don’t put your mouth in elections again.”

He also maintained that voters should make independent political decisions rather than allow celebrities to determine their choices at the polls.

Following the video, social media users noticed that Davido had liked VeryDarkMan’s post, prompting further discussion about the exchange. However, the reason for the singer’s reaction was not immediately clear.
