Eko Power Ltd. on Wednesday confirmed an increase in its electricity allocation from the national grid.
The company’s General Manager, Corporate Communications, Mr Abiola Aloba, disclosed this in a statement in Lagos.
Aloba said the company’s technical team had commenced efforts to restore electricity supply to all affected feeders following the increase in allocation.
He appealed to customers within the company’s franchise area to remain calm, assuring them that supply would be restored in stages.
“Some areas will get supply before others. Thanks for bearing with us. We’ll keep you posted,” he said.
Recall that 16 power plants had earlier recorded zero generation, resulting in widespread blackouts and worsening the situation for households and businesses across the country.
The affected plants include some of Nigeria’s major generating stations; Egbin, Geregu NIPP, Olorunsogo NIPP, Jebba, Kainji, Okpai, Rivers IPP, Trans Afam Power, Afam III Fast, Alaoji NIPP, Delta, GPAL, Ihovbor, MEPP and TAOPEX.
NAN also reports that data from the Nigeria Independent System Operator (NISO) showed that total real-time electricity generation fell to 2,033.66MW as at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, with only 13 generating plants recording output.
The figure represented a sharp decline from the 5,403MW recorded on Sept. 24, a drop of more than 3,300MW, or about 62 per cent, in less than two weeks.
The decline further worsened the power situation, particularly in Lagos and other major urban centres, where high diesel costs continue to put pressure on businesses.
When contacted, the General Manager, Public Affairs and Corporate Communications of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Ms Ndidi Mba, declined to comment on the development.
Efforts to reach the Assistant General Manager, Corporate Communications of NISO, Mr Bili Akau, for comment were unsuccessful as his telephone was not reachable.
