“If It Is True That People Recognise One Another After They Have Gone, We’ll Meet Again” — Pete Edochie Pays Tribute to Olu Jacobs

Veteran actor Pete Edochie has paid an emotional tribute to his late colleague and longtime friend, Olu Jacobs, reflecting on his character, humour and lasting impact on those who knew him.

Speaking about the late actor, Edochie said he had fought through life with the strength of a soldier and accepted that there was nothing anyone could do when a person’s time on earth had come to an end.

“If God says the time allotted to you on earth is finished, there’s absolutely nothing you can do about it. Olu, my brother, you fought like a man. You fought like the soldier I’ve always known you to be. Rest in peace, my brother,” he said.

Edochie described Jacobs as a humorous and peaceful colleague who brought warmth and laughter to those around him. He also recalled a particular line created by Jacobs that he said was known only to the late actor, Joke Silva and himself.

Turning to Joke Silva, Jacobs’ wife, Edochie acknowledged her efforts throughout their life together and urged her to remember and celebrate the life they shared.

“Joke, you did your best. And while we must mourn that Olu has gone, we should also be glad and celebrate Olu’s life,” he said.

Edochie also expressed hope that one of Jacobs’ children would eventually take up acting, saying it would allow people to continue seeing a part of the late actor and remembering what he meant to them.

“My one prayer is that one of Olu’s children take to acting so that whenever we look at him, we remember what Olu meant to all of us,” he added.

Reflecting on the possibility of meeting again beyond death, Edochie ended his tribute on a poignant note.

“Olu? Well, if it is true that people recognise one another after they have gone, then there’s a possibility that we’ll meet again,” he said.
