President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has marked the 66th birthday of his wife and First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, with an emotional tribute, describing her as his “truest friend and confidante” and declaring that, given another chance, he would choose the same path that brought them together.
Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, also joined Nigerians in celebrating the First Lady, describing her as an “Amazon” whose humanitarian interventions have touched vulnerable Nigerians across the country.
In a deeply personal birthday message to his wife, President Tinubu reflected on their years together, recalling how she stood by him through periods of uncertainty and shared burdens that were originally his to bear.
“I would choose the same road that led me to you,” the President declared.
Addressing her affectionately as “Oluremi mi,” Tinubu said his wife had walked beside him “with patience, grace and uncommon courage,” citing the Yoruba saying, “Ìyàwó rere ni adé ọkọ rẹ̀,” meaning “A good wife is her husband’s crown.”
“You have given these words true meaning in my life. You have stood by my side through every season,” he said.
“The burdens that were mine to bear often found their way onto your shoulders. The thoughts I could not put into words somehow found their way to you.
“In difficult times, when the future was uncertain, you stayed calm beside me and prayed with me.”
The President said that after years together, the First Lady remained the person who understood him most deeply, often knowing when he needed counsel even before he asked for it.
He also praised her willingness to speak frankly to him, including when her advice might be uncomfortable.
“I call you my truest friend and confidante because you speak the truth plainly, even on the days I would rather not hear it,” Tinubu said.
Beyond their relationship, the President paid tribute to his wife’s role in their family, saying their children and grandchildren had grown under the influence of her prayers, faith, and kindness.
He also highlighted her humanitarian activities, tracing them from the New Era Foundation during his tenure as Lagos State governor to the Renewed Hope Initiative as First Lady.
According to him, her interventions have reached young people, widows, elderly Nigerians, women farmers, and people affected by tuberculosis and other diseases.
Tinubu said his wife had demonstrated compassion without regard to ethnic, regional, or religious boundaries, including helping people she had never personally met.
Joining the birthday celebrations, Governor Oborevwori said Senator Tinubu’s commitment to women, children, families, and other vulnerable groups had earned her goodwill across different sections of the country.
In a message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon, the governor said the First Lady had used her position to complement government efforts to improve the lives of disadvantaged Nigerians.
He said her experience as a teacher, legislator, and First Lady had given her an appreciation of the challenges facing families and communities, particularly vulnerable citizens.
Oborevwori also commended her advocacy for social welfare, empowerment, and human capital development, saying her interventions demonstrated that public service went beyond occupying positions of authority to using influence to improve people’s lives.
“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, we celebrate an Amazon who has continued to support her beloved husband, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in making life meaningful for the downtrodden and less privileged in our society,” Oborevwori said.
The governor wished the First Lady good health, wisdom, and strength, and prayed for many more years of fulfilment and service to the country.
