Ex-governor Gongola, PDP National Chairman Tukur Buried in Yola as Jonathan, Ibori, Abbas Pay Tribute

The remains of the former National National Chairman, People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Bamanga Tukur were laid to rest in his hometown, Yola, Adamawa on Sunday.
The burial conducted according to Islamic rites, was led by the Chief Imam of Modibbo Adama Central Mosque, Yola, Alhaji Ahmadu Bobboi at 10:50 a.m.
His remains were buried in the family house at Fadde-Sanda, Abuja road, Yola at 11:30 a.m
Tukur died on Saturday at the age of 91 in Abuja.
He is survived by two wives and 18 children, among them the Secretary to the State Government of Adamawa, Awwal Tukur.
The funeral prayers were attended by Aliko Dangote, Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa, Sen. Iya Abbas representing Adamawa Central and former Governor Jibrilla Bindow.
Others were traditional leaders and other dignitaries across the state and beyond.
Meanwhile, former President Goodluck Jonathan, former Governor of Delta State James Ibori and Speaker of the House of Tepresentatives, Tajudeen Abbas have mourned the passing of the former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Jonathan, in a condolence message, expressed deep
sadness over the passing of Tukur, whom he described as a distinguished elder statesman, patriot, accomplished businessman and committed democrat.
In a condolence message released by his spokesman, Mr Ikechukwu Eze, the former President also described the late Tukur as a man who dedicated much of his life to the service of Nigeria and made significant contributions to the country’s political development and democratic consolidation.
“His contributions to Nigeria’s political development, democratic consolidation, and national unity remain significant,” Jonathan added.
On his part, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas described Tukur as one of the firmest politicians in the north who left an indelible mark in the country ‘s history.
He expressed sadness over the passing of the former governor of the defunct Gongola State.
Similsrly, Speaker House of Representatives Tajudee Abbas, in a condolence message signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, described Bamanga Tukur’s demise as a huge loss to the business and political communities, noting that the deceased was an elder statesman whose marks will remain indelible in the country’s history.
The Speaker said apart from Bamanga Tukur’s exemplary foray in public administration, governance, industry, politics and pan-African business leadership, he was also a devoted Muslim who propagated Islam and blessed humanity with his wealth.
He added that Tukur, as national chairman of PDP, contributed immensely to the improvement of Nigerian democracy and standard political practices.
Also, former Delta State Governor, Chief James Ibori, has mourned the death of former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bamanga Tukur, who died at the age of 90.
Tukur, a former governor of the old Gongola State, also served as Minister of Industries during the military administration of the late General Sani Abacha.
He is expected to be buried in Yola on Sunday.
In a condolence statement, Ibori paid tribute to Tukur, describing him as a patriotic Nigerian who served the country with distinction in the various capacities he occupied. He added that Tukur was a man of outstanding accomplishments whose contributions extended across politics and business.
According to him, Tukur was also a leader who firmly believed in creating opportunities for younger Nigerians to emerge and contribute to the country’s development.
Ibori recalled that this commitment to generational change was evident when Tukur marked his 80th birthday and announced his decision to withdraw from partisan politics.
“He announced that he was quitting partisan politics to give room to younger ones and remain a statesman and adviser,” Ibori stated. Politics
Recounting his early political association with the late politician, Ibori revealed that he worked in Tukur’s presidential campaign organisation in 1992.
“I worked in his campaign organisation as a Local Government Coordinator in 1992 when he was contesting the presidency, after I contested and lost my House of Representatives election in 1991 under the NRC,” he said. “He was contesting the presidency under the NRC alongside Adamu Ciroma, Umaru Shinkafi and others.”
Beyond their political association, Ibori emphasised the depth of experience Tukur brought to national affairs, describing his death as a significant loss to the country.
“Nigeria has lost one of its finest gentlemen, whose wealth of experience and deep knowledge of our national history will be missed,” he said.
As Nigeria approaches another general election, Ibori said the former PDP chairman’s absence would be particularly felt by those who valued his counsel and experience.
“We will miss his wise counsel, especially as we are moving towards a general election,” he added.
