Nigerian comedian AY Makun has reflected on Asake’s rise to global stardom after attending the singer’s concert in Houston, Texas, recalling a time when the now internationally recognised artiste once reached out to him on Instagram.

AY shared the reflection after watching Asake perform, saying he was amazed by how far the singer had come since the days when he was still trying to get noticed.

“I remember when this boy sent me a message in my DM on Instagram. I didn’t even get to see his message on time. This was years ago,” AY said.

The comedian, however, stressed that he was not sharing the story to take credit for Asake’s success, attributing the singer’s achievements to God, his talent and the hard work he has put into his career.

Rather, AY said Asake’s journey carries an important lesson about how people treat others, particularly those who are still trying to establish themselves.

“The person asking to be seen today may become the person the whole world will celebrate tomorrow,” he said.

He urged people to respect the dreams of others and avoid looking down on anyone simply because they have not achieved their potential yet.

Following the concert, AY said Asake’s management took him backstage to meet the singer, where he was struck by Asake’s humility despite his remarkable success.

“He greeted me, and even despite his success, the humility was still there,” he added.

AY concluded by praying for the singer, saying, “Asake, may God continue to take you from grace to grace.”

The comedian’s reflection has resonated with fans, with many viewing Asake’s journey from an emerging artiste seeking recognition to an internationally celebrated performer as a reminder of how quickly circumstances can change.
