Tinubu Mourns Tanzanian President Samia’s Husband, Says Nigeria Stands With Her in Grief

President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Hafidh Ameir Hassan, husband of Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, describing his passing as a painful loss not only to his family but to the people of Tanzania.

In a condolence message personally signed by him, Tinubu said Nigeria shared in the grief of President Hassan and her family, noting that the death of a lifelong companion represented a profound personal loss.

The President described his Tanzanian counterpart as a “dear sister and colleague” and acknowledged the depth of the companionship she shared with her late husband for almost five decades.

“I know what this loss means to President Samia and her family. She has lost a lifelong companion, her children a beloved father, and the family one of its pillars,” Tinubu said.

He noted that Hafidh Ameir Hassan had stood quietly beside his wife through the different seasons of her public service and rise to the presidency of Tanzania, providing companionship and support over the decades.

According to Tinubu, a relationship sustained for such a long period becomes an inseparable part of a person’s life, making the death of a spouse particularly devastating.

“For almost five decades, he stood quietly beside her, through every season of her service to Tanzania. A companionship of that depth becomes part of who a person is. To lose it is to lose a portion of oneself, and I feel for her deeply,” the President said.

Tinubu, on behalf of the Federal Government and the people of Nigeria as well as his family, extended condolences to President Hassan, her children, the wider Hassan family, and the people of Tanzania.

He said the tragedy underscored the importance of African solidarity, particularly at moments of personal and national grief.

“At moments such as this, the bonds that unite us as Africans matter even more. Nigeria mourns with Tanzania and stands with President Samia and her family in this hour of grief,” Tinubu said.

The President prayed for the repose of the deceased and for strength for the Tanzanian leader and her family as they mourn their loss.

“May the Almighty Allah grant Hafidh Ameir Hassan eternal rest, comfort all those he has left behind, and give President Samia and her family the strength and fortitude to bear this painful loss,” Tinubu added.
