Beninese Grammy Award-winning singer Angélique Kidjo has made history as the first African artist to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Kidjo was honoured with the 2,854th star during a ceremony held on August 18, 2026, in Los Angeles, California, recognising her decades-long contribution to international music and her role in bridging African and global cultures.
Speaking during the presentation, the legendary singer reflected on Africa’s immense influence on global music.
“We Africans don’t know what we’ve given to the world. Without us, there’s no music possible on this planet,” she said.
The honour marks another milestone in Kidjo’s four-decade career, which has seen her blend African musical traditions with genres and influences from around the world.
Widely regarded as one of Africa’s most influential musicians, Kidjo has earned multiple Grammy Awards and built an international career spanning music, culture and advocacy.
The Hollywood Walk of Fame is a landmark featuring more than 2,800 five-pointed terrazzo-and-brass stars, honouring individuals who have made significant contributions to the entertainment industry.
Kidjo’s recognition places her among the celebrated names whose work has left a lasting mark on global entertainment and gives Africa another historic presence on one of Hollywood’s most iconic landmarks.
