The wife of Nollywood actor Shawn Faqua, Ugo, has opened up about the unusual boundaries her husband maintained while they were dating, revealing that his strict convictions initially made her suspicious of his intentions.
Speaking during an interview, Ugo recalled that Shawn told her early in their relationship that they would not have sex until marriage. He also discouraged her from visiting his home because he believed being alone together could lead to temptation.
Although she initially respected his decision, Ugo admitted that his approach made her wonder if he was hiding something.
She recalled an incident when she had difficulty finding accommodation after arriving late from a trip and asked to stay at Shawn’s home temporarily. According to her, he still maintained his boundaries and asked her to give him time rather than put them in a situation where they could compromise their convictions.
Ugo said she eventually told her friends that she suspected Shawn was not being completely honest with her.
However, she later realised that his behaviour was not a cover for anything, but rather a reflection of his genuine beliefs and commitment to the relationship.
The actress’s wife also admitted that her past relationships had left her carrying emotional baggage, making it difficult for her to trust Shawn despite his openness and affection towards her.
“His honesty was actually a problem for me because I was carrying baggage from previous relationships,” she explained, adding that Shawn loved her in exactly the way she had always wanted without her having to ask.
Ugo revealed that his love eventually became overwhelming for her, to the point that she once asked for a break because she felt she was not ready for marriage.
Looking back, however, she said she has since healed from the emotional wounds she carried from previous relationships and no longer allows those experiences to define her.
