The Super Eagles of Nigeria have retained 26th position in the latest FIFA Men’s World Rankings released on Monday, but slipped to fourth place in the African continent.
Eric Chelle’s side garnered 1,585.2 points to stay ahead of Turkey, Australia, Algeria, Canada and Côte d’Ivoire, who occupy 27th, 28th, 29th, 30th and 31st positions respectively in the global standings.
The Super Eagles have not featured in competitive action since June, when they suffered a 2-1 defeat to former European champions Portugal in an international friendly.
Morocco’s sensational run to the World Cup quarter-finals catapulted them up to 6th in the world, having garnered 1,803.99 points, firmly cementing their status as Africa’s undisputed number-one team.
Egypt’s impressive surge to the Round of 16—where they pushed Argentina to the absolute limit in a 3.2 thriller, saw them overtake Nigeria on the continental ladder.
