A fresh war of words appears to have erupted between singer Seun Kuti and social media activist Martins Otse, also know as VeryDarkMan (VDM), with both men exchanging accusations over activism, integrity, and past political affiliations.
The latest clash followed the arrest of activist Omoyele Sowore on Monday, June 22, 2026. Shortly after the development, VeryDarkMan released a video calling for Sowore’s release, a move that seemingly drew criticism from Seun Kuti during one of his regular Instagram Live sessions on Sunday, June 28.
Questioning what he described as inconsistency, Seun accused VeryDarkMan of changing his stance on Sowore.
Referring to the activist as “Very Digmatized Man,” Seun alleged that VDM suffers from “main character syndrome” and constantly inserts himself into trending issues for attention.
“You called Sowore a thief. Now that he has been arrested, you’re calling for his release. Shouldn’t a thief remain in custody? Stand ten toes on your business,” Seun said.
The Afrobeat singer also challenged Nigerians to produce any video showing him inviting VeryDarkMan to join his political movement, the Movement of the People (MOP), insisting he had never done so.
However, shortly after the clip circulated online, social media users resurfaced a 2025 video in which Seun was seen publicly saying he had been urging both VeryDarkMan and rapper Odumodublvck to join the Movement of the People.
VeryDarkMan later responded, accusing Seun of attempting to rewrite history. He also alleged that the singer has repeatedly made derogatory remarks about the Igbo people, describing him as a bigot.
VDM further claimed that Seun had previously told him that Sowore’s protests were sponsored by international organisations, suggesting that the singer’s current position contradicted their past conversations.
The exchange has since fueled heated debate across social media, with supporters of both men dissecting old videos and past statements. The latest disagreement adds to a growing list of public clashes between the outspoken activist and the Afrobeat singer, whose differing views on politics, activism, and social commentary have repeatedly put them at odds.
