Skitmaker and singer Nasboi has weighed in on the growing debate sparked by rapper Ycee’s “Olodo uprising” remark, arguing that the phrase should be viewed as a compliment rather than an insult.
Sharing his thoughts on Instagram, Nasboi made it clear that he strongly believes in education but insisted that Nigeria’s harsh economic realities have forced many young people to seek alternative paths to success.
“For me, Olodo Uprising should be seen as a compliment. Before you misunderstand me, let me be clear, I am a big believer in education. I do not belong to the group of people who say school is a scam,” he wrote.
According to the entertainer, the country’s struggling educational system has failed to provide meaningful opportunities for many graduates, leaving countless young Nigerians with degrees but little hope of securing jobs that can sustain them.
He noted that while education remains important, survival has become the priority for many people, making digital platforms a lifeline rather than a distraction.
“The internet has created opportunities our educational system has failed to provide. Today, thousands of Nigerians are earning honest incomes through content creation, social media, technology, and other digital platforms. For many people, the internet has opened doors that traditional employment never could,” he stated.
Using content creator Peller as an example, Nasboi described him as a young man who transformed his life with nothing more than a smartphone and access to social media.
“The young local boy from Ikorodu was just a local boy with a phone. He discovered an app that the entire world was using. Today, he is taking care of himself, supporting his family, and creating opportunities many people only dream about,” he said.
He concluded by urging Nigerians to encourage, rather than ridicule, young content creators who are making honest livelihoods online.
