Actor Faizon Love, known for his roles in Elf, Couples Retreat, and Mr Bones, has been released from jail following a child support dispute that led to his arrest.
The 58 year old actor was freed on Friday, June 19, after spending several days in custody on two counts of contempt of court. Court records indicate that he had previously served a 16 day jail sentence in California before being transferred to Florida.
The case stems from a reopened paternity dispute filed by Tiffany Lee, who alleges that Love owes approximately $250,000 in unpaid child support. According to court filings, she claimed the actor had failed to comply with court ordered payments for several years.
During proceedings, Lee alleged that Love once told her she “wasn’t going to get a dime” and intended to stop working to avoid making support payments.
However, Love’s attorney, Glen Lansky, argued that the actor’s financial circumstances have drastically changed in recent years.
“He was homeless. He lived in his car. That’s how the mighty have fallen,” Lansky told the court.
Appearing in court in a wheelchair, Love stated that he could not afford the monthly child support payments of $2,500, claiming that his income had significantly declined.
According to the actor, he now relies largely on royalty payments from *Elf*, which generate approximately $10,000 annually.
Court documents cited by U.S. media reportedly show that Love’s highest annual income over the past five years was $13,000, while his income for 2025 was listed as zero.
His attorney later clarified that the actor is no longer homeless and currently resides with a friend in California.
The court has given Love until July 1 to provide financial records supporting his claim that he is unable to meet the child support obligations. His legal team is expected to file a petition seeking a modification of the existing support order.
