Bassey Seeks Support for Grassroots Sports Development, Lauds God’s Power Tower’s Unity Cup

Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey has called on individuals who have attained stardom and are doing well in sports to replicate the Godspower grassroots sports development experiment.
Bassey made the call while featuring as Special Guest of Honour at Tower Unity Cup Final.
The Sports event, held at Government Primary School,Ikot Ntuen Oku, Uyo, had on display Greater Tomorrow Football Academy shrugging it out with Ibiono Ibom PRO.
While emphasizing Governor Umo Eno’s commitment to sports development at the grassroots, the sports commissioner gave kudos to the organizer of the cup, God’s power Tower, a former Akwa United football star, now plying his trade abroad.
According to the Akwa Ibom sports helmsman, being an effort that
compliments the commitment
of the government in promoting sports in the state, similar initiative by others would always be welcomed.
“Tower has done well.I support what he’s doing,the ministry of Sports supports it and we pray God to give him the grace to continue to do it…we are looking forward to others doing the same thing that Tower has done. And when we replicate this, new stars will emerge and sports will grow in Akwa Ibom State”, the commissioner said.
Bassey, who was elated by the presence of key football stakeholders in the state, including the coaches of Akwa United and Ibom Angels football clubs, Emem Eduok, Dennis Nya, Akarandut Orok, Kufre Ebong, etc…the quality of the football played, and the general organizing of the competition, thanked dignitaries and spectators for turning up enmass, describing the spirit as “an honour and respect for our own even when a World Cup match is going on”
The well organized competition was won by Greater Tomorrow Football Academy, which edged Ibiono PRO 1-0 to claim the title.
