Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa has strongly defended her colleagues against criticism for not publicly speaking out on the country’s worsening insecurity, describing the backlash from social media users as unfair and excessive.

In a passionate statement, Amusa argued that actors should not be pressured to abandon their professional responsibilities to constantly comment on national issues.

According to her, many filmmakers take significant financial risks, including obtaining high interest loans, to produce movies and sustain the industry.

“The bullying many of you subject our colleagues to in the industry is crazy. They can’t post their jobs without being called insensitive,” she said.

The actress criticized those attacking entertainers online, saying many critics expect celebrities to continuously post about kidnappings and insecurity while carrying on with their own daily activities.

She also made it clear that she would no longer tolerate online trolling, insisting that she would not change her brand or public image to satisfy social media mobs.

“I’ve made up my mind that many of you trolls don’t matter. I won’t pander to mobs, as I didn’t build my brand on it,” she stated.

Despite her criticism of online attacks, Amusa expressed sympathy for the families affected by the recent kidnapping of children and teachers in Oyo State, praying for their safe return.

“May God bring succor to the family of the kids and teachers kidnapped in Oyo State. May they return home safely,” she added.
