Veteran Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw has emotionally opened up about the gradual breakdown of her once-close friendship with fellow screen icon Genevieve Nnaji, leaving many fans nostalgic over one of Nollywood’s most admired celebrity relationships.

Speaking during an appearance on the *Tea with Tay* podcast, the 53 year old actress reflected on how their bond slowly faded over time despite years of public closeness and shared appearances.

According to Kate, the distance between them happened unexpectedly, as she admitted she still does not fully understand what caused the change in their relationship.

“We grew apart. I don’t know, maybe she had some mistrust about me. We were close; we used to go to events together, then there was a gap. I don’t know what happened,” she said.

The actress, known for her outspoken personality and longevity in Nollywood, revealed that after a long period of silence between them, they eventually reunited professionally during a Netflix commercial shoot in South Africa alongside media entrepreneur Mo Abudu and other stars.

Kate explained that Genevieve was warm and pleasant during the encounter, which gave her a sense of peace despite the emotional distance that had developed over the years.

Using a reflective metaphor about friendship and life, Kate said not every relationship is meant to last forever.

“You know how they say 20 friends cannot play together for 20 years? That’s true. People are in your life for different reasons and seasons. Some are roots, some are leaves, some are branches,” she added.

The emotional revelation has since sparked reactions across social media, with many Nigerians reminiscing about the era when both actresses dominated Nollywood together and were frequently seen side by side at movie premieres and industry events.

For years, Kate Henshaw and Genevieve Nnaji were regarded as two of the most influential faces in the Nigerian movie industry, inspiring generations of actors and movie lovers across Africa.
