Nollywood actor turned politician Desmond Elliot has officially withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Surulere 1 constituency in the Lagos State House of Assembly, citing alleged intimidation of his supporters.
Desmond Elliot announced his withdrawal on Wednesday at the Paddington Mini Stadium in Western Avenue, where the party’s primary was being conducted.
According to the lawmaker, several of his supporters were allegedly denied access to the polling venue despite repeated appeals to electoral officials.
“And of course, in all zones, they’ve been intimidating and stopping us. I want to officially announce my withdrawal from this particular race,” he said during the exercise.
The actor turned politician further explained that he decided to step down and leave the venue peacefully to prevent any breakdown of law and order, stressing that no political contest is worth the loss of lives.
Following his withdrawal, supporters loyal to him staged a peaceful protest before gradually exiting the venue alongside him.
Desmond Elliot also called on the APC leadership to ensure a free and fair process during the conduct of party primaries across Lagos State.
