Afrobeat singer Made Kuti has sparked conversations online after revealing that he did not kneel while proposing to his wife, Inedoye Onyenso, because he believes marriage should be a mutual decision rather than an act of begging.

Speaking during a recent episode of the Timeless Podcast on Nix Network’s YouTube channel, the singer explained that both partners should equally choose each other without one person appearing to plead for the relationship.

Made Kuti said he made it clear to his wife that neither of them was begging to be together, insisting that marriage should be based on mutual understanding and agreement.

The Grammy nominated singer, who married Onyenso in a private ceremony in Lagos in November 2023, also revealed during the interview that his wife was once his school daughter.

His comments have since sparked mixed reactions online, with social media users debating modern proposal culture, masculinity and relationship dynamics.
