When passion meets purpose, the result is often extraordinary — and for many residents in Airdrie, that description fits Simi Obasan perfectly.
A respected lawyer, educator, and now elected city councillor, Obasan has steadily built a reputation as one of the community’s most inspiring voices, blending professional excellence with a deep commitment to service.
As principal partner at Grandforth Legal Practitioners and a law instructor at Bow Valley College, Obasan says her journey into law was driven by a lifelong desire to defend fairness and speak for the unheard.
“I’ve always been passionate about advocacy, fairness, justice, and protection for those without a voice, so this career path chose me,” she said.
But beyond the courtroom and classroom, Obasan’s influence stretches across Airdrie’s community landscape. Over the years, she has volunteered with the Airdrie Assessment Review Board, Volunteer Airdrie, the Airdrie Minor Basketball Association, the Airdrie Black Community, and several other local initiatives.
According to her, service is more than a responsibility — it is a legacy.
“Giving back is essential to me because every small act of kindness, every moment of sacrifice, and every decision to uplift another person through community service contributes to a legacy of impact,” she said.
Her dedication has earned admiration from many within the community, including Stewart Sealy, who praised her selflessness and unwavering commitment to helping others.
“I have witnessed her tireless passion to help make the world a better place for all,” Sealy said. “Simisola is selfless and serves the community as a role model of excellence. My life has been enriched since knowing her.”
Now serving as a city councillor, Obasan continues to inspire residents with a leadership style rooted in empathy, compassion, and determination — qualities many believe are transforming her into one of Airdrie’s most admired community figures.
