The Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed May 28 to hear a suit seeking to compel the Nigeria Police Force to reopen investigations into the death of late singer Mohbad.
Presiding judge James Omotosho adjourned the matter after confirmation that all parties listed in the suit had been duly served.
Those named as respondents include the Nigeria Police Force, the Inspector General of Police, and the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command.
The case, filed by the Break the Silence Foundation, is seeking an order of mandamus to compel authorities to carry out what it describes as a “thorough, diligent and impartial” reinvestigation into the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death in September 2023.
During proceedings, counsel to the applicant, Tunde Falola, informed the court that all respondents in the suit had been properly served, leading to the adjournment.
Beyond reopening the investigation, the suit is also pushing for key individuals to be invited for questioning, including the late singer’s wife, Omowumi Cynthia Aloba, close associates, and his father, Joseph Aloba, over allegations surrounding the circumstances of his burial.
The applicants further urged the court to direct law enforcement agencies to arrest and prosecute anyone found culpable once sufficient evidence is established.
As the new hearing date approaches, the case signals renewed pressure for answers in a matter that has continued to stir public interest and demand for justice.
