The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has inaugurated the 2026 FCT Sports Associations Screening Committee, tasked with overseeing the electoral process for sports associations across the territory.
The inauguration ceremony was conducted on behalf of the minister by the FCT Director of Sports, Luka Istifanus. He highlighted that the committee comprises individuals of proven integrity and is expected to ensure a credible and transparent process as elections into various sports associations commence.
“We have the approval of the Honourable Minister to constitute and inaugurate this committee, which will lay the foundation for credible elections into the FCT sports associations,” Istifanus stated.
In his acceptance remarks, the committee chairman, Godwin Bamigboye, expressed gratitude to the minister and FCT sports leadership for the confidence reposed in the team. He pledged that members would carry out their responsibilities diligently and meet the high expectations set before them.
Bamigboye further noted that, beyond overseeing the elections, the committee would explore avenues to advocate for the advancement of sports administration in the territory. This includes efforts to elevate the FCT Sports Department to a full-fledged commission.
Other members of the committee include Secretary Clinton Agbor, Dr. Charles Agadu, Iyiola Ogundele, Esther Whobba, Niyi Busari, Hon. Albert Atiwurcha (representing all FCT Sports Associations), and Uche Unwudoh.
The committee is expected to play a central role in ensuring a smooth and credible transition of leadership across sports associations in the upcoming FCT Sports Associations elections.
