Ikorodu City FC’s push for a historic Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) continental slot has been paused following a late adjustment to their Matchday 36 fixture.
The league body confirmed on Tuesday that the crucial clash, against Wikki Tourists, initially slated for May 3, will now take place on May 5.
The NPFL said the rescheduling was due to fixture clashes involving the Lagos State Federation Cup final at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.
While the change may appear routine, it introduces added tension at both ends of the table.
Ikorodu City, chasing a maiden continental slot, must now manage the psychological challenge of a delayed fixture in a tightly contested race.
For Wikki Tourists, the shift could prove beneficial, offering extra time to regroup as they battle to avoid relegation.
The NPFL cited logistical considerations linked to hosting the Federation Cup final at the same venue as the reason for the adjustment.
“Matchday 36 fixture, Ikorodu City versus Wikki Tourists has been rescheduled from May 3 to May 5.
“This is owing to the Lagos State Federation Cup final scheduled at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos, on May 3,” NPFL said in a statement.
With the season nearing its climax, even minor disruptions could influence momentum, making the rescheduled encounter one of the most pivotal in the run-in.
