Political leaders from Enugu State on Tuesday formally pledged support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, following a high-level meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The delegation, led by Governor Peter Mbah, said it spoke on behalf of the state’s estimated seven million residents, expressing what it described as “unalloyed support” for the President’s second-term ambition.
Among those present were Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke; former Senate President Ken Nnamani; former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla; former governors Sullivan Chime and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi; as well as former governor of old Anambra State, Jim Nwobodo. The delegation also included lawmakers, ex-ministers, traditional and religious leaders, and academics.
Responding, President Tinubu welcomed the endorsement and said ongoing economic reforms were beginning to yield tangible results across the country. He pointed to improvements in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and security as evidence that policy decisions taken by his administration were producing measurable outcomes.
The President also commended state governors for effectively utilising increased allocations to sub-national governments, noting that the release of additional funds had helped address longstanding challenges of financing major development projects.
Tinubu attributed the growing political realignment towards the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the impact of these reforms, suggesting that increased federal support had strengthened collaboration between the centre and states, including Enugu.
He assured the delegation of continued partnership, particularly in key areas such as railway development, power sector reforms, and critical infrastructure, describing them as central to Nigeria’s long-term economic growth.
The President further praised Governor Mbah’s leadership, especially his efforts to tackle insecurity and expand social infrastructure in Enugu State. He urged sustained focus on governance, dismissing criticism from political opponents and insisting that democracy would endure despite challenges.
In his remarks, Governor Mbah said the visit was both symbolic and strategic, reflecting a shared commitment between Enugu State and the federal government to economic progress and national development.
He expressed appreciation for federal interventions in the state, including projects inaugurated during the President’s visit to Enugu in January 2025, which he said had accelerated socio-economic growth.
According to the governor, the support being extended to Tinubu was rooted in what he described as a productive and trust-based relationship.
He said the delegation represented the collective voice of Enugu’s people and affirmed that the state would stand with the President in the 2027 election.
Also speaking, former Senate President Ken Nnamani said the visit was to acknowledge federal support for Enugu and the South-East, particularly in infrastructure development spanning roads, rail, and aviation.
He commended Governor Mbah’s leadership and affirmed that the state’s achievements were closely tied to federal backing, adding that the people of Enugu would reciprocate with political support in the next presidential election.
