Popular social media influencer and Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on New Media, Freedom Atsepoyi, popularly known as Mr Jollof, has sparked debate with a bold statement aimed at the elite in Delta State.

Speaking on Saturday, 11 April 2026, he made a sweeping claim that there are no real rich men in Delta State, regardless of how influential or celebrated they may appear outside the state.

According to him, wealth should not just be measured by lifestyle, fame, or social status, but by impact. In his words, if you claim to be a “big man” from Delta, where are the industries? Where are the factories? Where are the structures that create jobs and drive development within the state?

He argued that the responsibility of development should not rest solely on the government. While leadership plays a role, the private sector must also rise to the occasion by investing in ventures that generate employment and contribute to economic growth.

For Mr Jollof, this is the real test of wealth.
Not the cars. Not the parties. Not the influence, but the ability to build something that outlives you and uplifts others.

His comments have since triggered mixed reactions, with some praising his call for accountability, while others see it as an oversimplification of a complex economic reality.
