Former President Goodluck Jonathan has called on Nigerian leaders to rise above personal ambition and embrace a style of leadership rooted in sacrifice, humility, and service, drawing inspiration from the life of Jesus Christ.

In his Easter message to Christians in Nigeria and across the world, delivered on Sunday in Abuja, Jonathan said the essence of leadership lies in selflessness and a commitment to the common good.

He urged leaders at all levels to reflect deeply on the example set by Christ, noting that true leadership requires putting the welfare of others ahead of personal gain.

“True leadership demands that we live above personal interest and serve with sacrifice, humility, and sincerity,” Jonathan said, adding that such values are critical to building a peaceful and prosperous nation.

The former president also encouraged Nigerians not to lose hope despite the country’s current challenges, reminding citizens of the nation’s resilience through difficult periods in the past.

According to him, the Easter season offers an opportunity for reflection on God’s love and the enduring message of redemption and salvation symbolised by Christ’s death and resurrection.

He described the resurrection as the foundation of the Christian faith and a powerful symbol of victory over death, as well as a source of hope for believers.

“Easter speaks to us about faith, sacrifice, and service. These are not just Christian virtues; they are the values that hold a nation together,” he said.

Jonathan urged citizens to remain steadfast in their belief in Nigeria, stressing that national progress depends on collective faith and perseverance.

“We have been through hard times before, and we came through. Do not give up. Keep faith with Nigeria,” he added.

He concluded by wishing Christians a joyful Easter celebration and praying for continued peace and unity in the country.
