Despite suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat in Jos, Lobi Stars FC can take solace in what many see as a moral and administrative victory following the ruling of the Disciplinary Committee of the Nigeria National League over the conduct of the General Manager of Mighty Jets FC Mr Ferdinand Mbum.
In the pre-match meeting counting down to the encounter at the Zaria Road Stadium, the Mighty Jets official was reported to have made inciting utterances that his side must win and alleging that referees who had previously officiated in Jos cheated without consequences. The comments raised serious concerns about the safety and independence of match officials.
In its ruling, the league’s disciplinary body described the remarks as acts capable of incitement and intimidation, subsequently placing the Mighty Jets General Manager on a one-home-match ban and issuing a stern warning against any repeat of such conduct.
While the Pride of Benue fell 1-0 on the pitch, the decision by the league body has been widely welcomed by management and players of Lobi Stars, who see the verdict as a victory for fairness and integrity in the game.
Management has also applauded the Nigeria National League for what they describe as a sound and courageous judgement aimed at protecting the spirit of gairness in association football and ensuring respect for match officials.
