Troops of the 1 Division Training School (DTS) have undergone intensive Counter-Insurgency (COIN), ambush and Improvised Explosive Device (IED) drills during a joint Field Training Exercise (FTX) held at the Nigerian Army School of Infantry (NASI), Jaji.
In his remarks, the 1 Division Training Officer, Brig.-Gen. Abdullahi Gwani, said the school had concluded its final Field Training Exercise (FTX) for Shining Star Course IX/26, in collaboration with the Warrant Officers Academy (WOA) Course 47, on Sunday in Kaduna .
Gwani, said the joint exercise ensured synergy in training and strengthened operational cohesion among participating units.
He said the exercise, codenamed EX BUGUN DOKI, was conducted at the Nigerian Army School of Infantry (NASI) Training Area, Jaji, from Feb. 26 to Sunday.
He said the four-day exercise was designed to enhance operational efficiency and promote inter-unit cooperation, with the WOA Course 47 providing the command and control framework.
Gwani said the training exposed the participants to practical battle drills, Counter-Insurgency (COIN) operations, ambush and counter-ambush tactics, as well as Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detection and clearance.
Other modules included raid operations, neutralisation of simulated enemy camps and advanced map reading.
Gwani said the exercise was in line with the command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu.
It is aimed at transforming the Nigerian Army into a more professional, adaptable, combat-ready and resilient force capable of effectively discharging its constitutional responsibilities in joint and multi-agency environments.
The Commandant, Warrant Officers Academy, Brig.-Gen. Anthony Wende, who was represented by Lt.-Col. Zeerenjo Aguomba, described the exercise as critical to operational preparedness.
He said realistic simulations prepared personnel to operate effectively, safely and lawfully under high-pressure combat conditions.
Wende also commended the COAS for sustained support and provision of resources for troop development.
Highlights of the exercise included a 10-kilometre tactical advance, section and company-level battle procedures, defensive routines, patrols, search and rescue operations and precision raids.
