Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta has urged corp members employers across the state not to reject any corps member posted to them.
Oborevwori said this yesterday at the closing ceremony of the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) Batch C stream 1 held at the orientation camp, Issele-Uku.
The governor was represented by the Commissioner for Special Projects, Mr Funyei Manager.
He urged corp members employers to provide a conducive working environment that would enable them contribute meaningfully to the development of the state and the county in general.
“In the same vein, corps members are expected to willingly accept their postings, bearing in mind that the values of national service cannot be entrenched if postings, especially to rural communities are consistently rejected.
“These communities need your service the most,” he said.
He urge Corp members to embrace the call to national service with seriousness, commitment, and patriotism.
“Such attitude will not only enrich their personal experience but will also enable the nation to derive maximum benefit from the services they will render in the months ahead,” he said.
He said that the orientation course they have just completed lays a strong foundation for the other cardinal programmes of the NYSC Scheme.
“Its components will exposed them to a variety of skills and knowledge that will prepare them to function effectively in their various places of primary assignment.
“I am encouraged by your positive response to the demands of the course and the sense of responsibility you demonstrated throughout the period.
“The apprenticeship training you received under the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme have equipped you with relevant skills that will provide a soft landing as you strive for financial independence and self-reliance,” he said.
He appealed to corp members as they proceed to the various places of their primary assignment to integrate themselves with their host communities and interact positive with the people.
“Deltans are known for their friendliness and hospitality, and I expect you to reciprocate this gesture by being good ambassadors of the NYSC and responsible representatives of your families and states of origin,” he said.
He commended the board and management of the NYSC scheme for their continued commitment to the vision of the founding fathers and for their efforts in strengthening the Scheme to address national challenges.
“I applaud the management for sustaining the entrepreneurial and skill acquisition programmes, which remain crucial to addressing youth unemployment and promoting self-sufficiency,”he said.
Mr John Kwange the State Coordinator for NYSC commended the State Governor for his continuous support and interventions towards the success of the NYSC scheme in Delta.
“We pray for continued progress, peace and prosperity of the State under his purposeful leadership,” he said.
He also commended the management of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for the installation of two hundred and twenty nine (229) solar-powered streetlights within the camp.
“These installations have not only illuminated the camp at night, but have also enhanced its aesthetic appeal and significantly improved the security of government infrastructure within the facility,” he said.
He urged the leaders and members of their host community to help safeguard the facilities within their domain, saying that the camp remains the only visible presence of the Federal Government in the community.
He urged corps members, as they depart from the camp to remember that National Service is a rare privilege and an honourable opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the development and unity of our nation.
“I charge you to be law-abiding, respectful and exemplary in your conduct, uphold the laws of the land, abide by the NYSC By-Laws, and respect the customs and traditions of your host communities.
“Always remember that you are ambassadors of the scheme and a worthy representatives of your families and institutions.
“The Community Development Service (CDS) remains a critical pillar of the NYSC vision. I implore you to identify the genuine needs of your host communities and initiate projects that will leave lasting impact.
“Serve with humility, integrity and passion, uphold the noble ideals of the NYSC scheme and strive to leave every community better than you met it,” he said.
