The Rise Of Digital Feminists

These days, a certain group of female content creators has emerged with a mission that seems to go beyond empowerment. Their content isn’t just pro-women; it is often deliciously anti-men, served sizzling hot on TikTok and Instagram for millions to digest. Their topics range from childbirth trauma to the politics of household chores, from sexual dynamics to femininity, and of course, the all-purpose umbrella called patriarchy. And trust them, they do not mince words.

Their content lands on the male ego like a well-aimed slap from a Nollywood mother: sharp, loud, and impossible to ignore. Unsurprisingly, their audience continues to multiply. Young girls searching for a voice and quietly frustrated wives who watch these videos with their Bluetooth earphones while their husbands walk past confused.

There’s activism, yes, a sprinkle of “women deserve better”, but the real show, the main attraction, the viral magnet, is the men-dragging. It is cathartic for some, comedic for many, and annoying for others, and it begs the question:

Is this truly where we are now?
A society comfortable enough to nurse resentment and water it like a potted plant, watching it bloom beautifully for the algorithm?
Creators like Obidi Ojochide, with her fiery storytelling; Faithful Feminity, with her delicate yet bold dissections of gender roles; and Feminist Lens, whose analytical videos are practically internet petitions, have built entire online empires on this trend.
Their followers don’t just listen, they belong. They find validation. Sisterhood. Laughter. Release.

Some even find justification for choices they were already leaning toward, but beyond the entertainment, the online feminist boom reveals something deeper: a generation of Nigerian women who are tired, tired of silence, tired of tradition, tired of being the emotional dump-site of the universe.
And whether or not one agrees with the extremities of these creators, they have tapped into a real emotional current simmering beneath the surface of society.

Still, we cannot ignore the other side: the growing discomfort, the quiet whispers from men, and even some women, who wonder if this wave is healing wounds or simply creating new ones.

And whether we like the tone or not, the gender debate has officially gone digital, got an attitude, and now wears lip gloss.
