Fr. Adasu Varsity Achieves Best-Ever NUGA Performance; Kpakor, Athletes Credit Gov. Alia, VC for Feat

Former Super Eagles midfielder and BCC Lions football club of Gboko skipper, Moses Kpakor, and some athletes, who represented Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University of Makurdi at the just concluded 27th NUGA Games held at University of Jos, have attributed the university’s sterling performance at the games to the institution’s Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Emmanuel Ayangarumun Kenen, and the state Governor, Hyacint Alia.
Kpakor, who doubles as the university’s Coordinator of Sports, told KTH Daily that on his first day in office, the VC released funds for the participation of the university’s contingent to the Jos games.
Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University Makurdi, won five gold and three bronze medals to place 11th on the overall medals’ table out of 60 universities that participated in the games.
He said the performance of the university at this year’s games is historic because this is first time the Makurdi-based university ever achieved such a feat since its inception in 1992.
“The university’s historic achievement is owed to the support given by the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Emmanuel Ayangarumun Kenen, who in his one day in office released funds to my office to convey the contingent to Jos.
“This history making performance is also owed to the adminstration of Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, as the University’s Visitor as well as the Executive Governor of Benue State. It is also owed to the combined efforts of the university’s Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Emmanuel Ayangarumun Kenen, as well as all the Principal Members of university’s Management,” Kpakor said.
Some of the athletes, in an interview with KTH Daily, also said if not for the effort of the Acting Vice-Chancellor, the university contingent would not have participated in the games because funds were not provided to the sports unit for the games.
They added that it was on his first day in office, which incidentally was the arrival day in Jos that Professor Kenen released funds to the sports unit to travel for the games. They, therfore dedicated their success to the Acting Vice-Chancellor, and they pleaded with him to release funds for the purchase of sports equipment, and for early preparation for the next games in Calabar, as some of the athletes lamented that they went to Jos with hired sports jerseys, rackets and canvases.
On their chances in the next games coming up in Calabar next year, the athletes said if sports equipment are provided to them in time, preparations begin early, and motivated, they are hopeful of winning more medals and improving on their performances in Jos.
