Wife of Delta Gov. Empowers Visually Impaired, Grants Four Scholarships

The wife of Delta Governor and Founder of the ‘You Matter Charity Foundation’, Mrs Tobore Oborevwori, has reaffirmed her commitment to empowering persons with visual impairment through education, support, and inclusion.
Speaking during a special outreach and donation held on Wednesday in Asaba, Oborevwori presented special devices, food items, and educational materials to more than 180 visually impaired beneficiaries.
She described the outreach as part of her foundation’s continuous drive to uplift vulnerable groups and promote inclusiveness across the state.
Oborevwori noted that the initiative was designed to ease the challenges faced by the visually impaired, particularly in education and livelihood development.
“It gives me great joy to extend a hand of fellowship to the visually impaired through the “You Matter Charity Foundation”.
“They are often treated as second-class citizens, but we are here to change that narrative.
“The power and potential of the visually impaired cannot be overestimated, ” she said.
The governor’s wife emphasised the transformative power of education and urged beneficiaries who had advanced in their studies to mentor younger members of the community.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), repors that as part of the donations, she distributed specialised laptops and other learning aids to enhance the educational experience of the recipients.
She also distributed foodstuffs, which included rice, garri, yams, and cooking oil among the attendees.
In a major highlight of the event, the governor’s wife announced full academic scholarships for four visually impaired undergraduates, pledging to personally sponsor their education.
The scholarship recipients are: Mezie Chinedu, a 23-year old 300-level student of History and International Studies of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Beauty Ogenemaro, and a first-year student of Mass Communication, University of Benin.
Other beneficiaries are Victoria Agbogun, a 200-level student of Language and Communication Arts, Obafemi Awolowo University; and Stephen Ekevere, a 300-level student of Guidance and Counselling, Adekunle Ajasin University.
Earlier, the Director-General of the Foundation, Mrs Lawrentta Ogbedo, praised the governor’s wife compassionate and visionary leadership.
She described the initiative as one of many efforts aimed at promoting social inclusion in the state.
Ogbedo said that the Foundation would continue collaborating with relevant stakeholders to ensure that no one was left behind regardless of disability or background.
In a short exhortation, Mrs Nkechi Onianwa, a clergy woman encouraged the beneficiaries with a message drawn from 1 Peter, chapter 2: verse 9, reminding them that every person was created for greatness.
She urged them to remain steadfast in faith, adding “those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.”
The Chairman, Nigerian Association of the Blind, Delta State Chapter, Mr Edison Edirin, expressed appreciation to the governor’s wife for her consistent support.
He noted that her humanitarian efforts had significantly improved the lives of visually impaired persons in the state.
As a token of gratitude, members of the Association presented gifts to Oborevwori, commending her continued support for their welfare.
Meanwhile, the beneficiaries expressed profound gratitude to the foundation for restoring hope and confidence in their abilities.
They described the support as a “life-changing intervention” that would ease their academic and daily challenges while motivating them to pursue their dreams in spite physical limitations.
