…Police, DSS, Hunters and Vigilantes Move to Secure Abuja’s Outskirts Against Infiltrators

The new Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Miller Dantawaye, has ordered an intensive round-the-clock security patrol across Abuja’s border communities, in a decisive push to secure the territory from banditry, kidnapping, and cross-border criminal infiltration ahead of the festive season.

In a strong show of force and coordination, the FCT Police Command, working jointly with the Department of State Services (DSS), local hunters, and vigilante groups, has deployed special patrol teams to vulnerable border corridors connecting Bwari to Kaduna State, Bwari to Niger State, and Gwagwalada to Niger State.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, said the patrols were ordered by CP Dantawaye as part of a new intelligence-driven operation aimed at deterring criminal elements and reassuring residents of the government’s readiness to keep the capital safe.

According to Adeh, the special operations, which began on November 9, are designed to “strengthen community confidence, enhance security visibility, and ensure that residents can go about their activities, including religious worship, without fear.” She added that churches, mosques, and other worship centres situated in the border settlements would benefit directly from the heightened patrols.

“The Commissioner of Police has directed the immediate blocking of access routes often exploited by bandits and kidnappers, while all identified forest outposts must remain active and under constant supervision,” Adeh stated.

She added that the CP has personally ordered field commanders to maintain visible security presence, engage local stakeholders, and share real-time intelligence with the DSS and other security partners. Residents have also been advised to cooperate fully with law enforcement and to report any suspicious activity through the FCT Command’s emergency lines — 08032003913 and 08068587311.

CP Dantawaye, known for his firm and tactical policing approach, has vowed to restore total security to the outskirts of the FCT, which have in recent years become flashpoints for kidnappings and rural bandit attacks.

“The security of lives and property is a shared responsibility,” he declared. “We are bringing security closer to the people — no part of the FCT will be left exposed.”

With the new patrol order now in force, residents of border communities stretching from Bwari to Gwagwalada say they are already noticing increased movement of armed personnel and joint patrol units — a clear signal that the new sheriff in Abuja has come ready for business.
