…Party Insists on Tinubu, Oborevwori as Choice Candidates for 2027

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, on Sunday, further strengthened its internal cohesion and confidence in leadership, as it passed an unequivocal vote of confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, endorsing both men as the party’s sole candidates for the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement, which effectively cements Governor Oborevwori’s growing influence and leadership within the Delta APC, was made during a well-attended stakeholders’ meeting at the State Banquet Hall, Government House, Asaba. The meeting brought together top party leaders, serving and former lawmakers, commissioners, local government chairmen, and political heavyweights across the state’s three senatorial districts.
The motion, moved by Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN, and seconded by former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, reflected what participants described as “a new era of unity and purpose” within the party.
Keyamo commended President Tinubu for his “bold reforms and transformative leadership,” describing the removal of fuel subsidy as a courageous policy that has freed up resources for national development. “Just two days ago, Mr. President approved $1 billion for the resuscitation of the Warri Port, alongside other key national projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road and the rebuilding of Lagos Airport. These are direct results of subsidy savings. The President has proven himself a prudent manager and visionary leader,” Keyamo stated.
He also lauded Governor Oborevwori for what he termed “visionary governance and massive infrastructural transformation” across Delta State. Moving the motion, Keyamo proposed that “the Delta APC passes a vote of confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and adopts them as the party’s sole candidates for the 2027 general elections.”
Seconding the motion, Ochei praised both leaders for their inclusive approach to governance and for what he called “visible developmental footprints.” He added that “the people of Delta and the South-South stand firmly behind President Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori for their vision of a renewed Nigeria and a progressive Delta State.”
In his response, Governor Oborevwori thanked the APC stakeholders for their confidence, assuring them that the administration would remain focused on delivering tangible development. “I thank you for this confidence and endorsement. The APC is growing stronger by the day. More governors will join us before the end of November,” he declared.
The Governor praised President Tinubu as “a leader who rewards loyalty, commitment, and results,” adding: “In 2027, our votes will be our report card. Those who truly love the President will demonstrate it through the ballot. I won 21 out of 25 local governments in the last election because we worked hard and stayed loyal. That is what true commitment means.”
Oborevwori warned against disloyalty within the party, hinting that some individuals who failed to work for the APC in past elections had nonetheless benefited from its success. “Some people in power today didn’t work for the APC, but we know them. When the time comes, we will expose them. This time, loyalty will be rewarded—not hypocrisy,” he said pointedly.
He urged party members to prioritize unity and collective interest above personal ambition, while reaffirming his government’s commitment to inclusive development. Highlighting ongoing projects, he cited the ₦59 billion Enerhen Junction flyover, the ₦39 billion Ughelli Flyover, and the upcoming rehabilitation of the Warri–Sapele Road, noting that Delta remains “the only state where contractors are not owed.”
“We pay 40% mobilization upfront because we manage resources prudently. The President’s reforms are working, and Delta is reaping the benefits,” he added.
Former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, who led the April 28, 2025, mass defection into the APC, described the gathering as a defining moment in Delta’s political evolution. “Joining the APC was the right decision. The party is now stronger, more united, and better positioned for victory in 2027,” Okowa said. He also lauded President Tinubu’s economic reforms as “bold and necessary,” urging party leaders to communicate their long-term benefits to the grassroots.
Okowa credited Governor Oborevwori with fostering cohesion and political balance across Delta’s three senatorial zones, describing him as “a unifier whose humility has rebuilt the Delta APC into a formidable force.”
In his welcome address, APC State Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, said Governor Oborevwori’s performance had made the party “formidable and unstoppable,” declaring that “anyone planning to contest against him in 2027 will meet a brick wall.”
Delta Central APC Chairman, Chief Paulinus Akpeki, called April 28 “a defining date when vision met action,” while leaders from Delta North and South, Chief Adizue Eluaka and Austin Oribioye, affirmed that the party is now more united than ever.
At the national level, Senators Ede Dafinone, Ned Nwoko, Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, and Hon. Nicholas Mutu jointly declared that “there is no vacancy till 2031,” pledging continued service to their constituents and the APC.
Prominent leaders including Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, and Senator James Manager also affirmed there is “no opposition to Governor Oborevwori in 2027,” pledging full support for his reelection alongside President Tinubu’s second term bid.
ALGON representative and Bomadi Council Chairman, Hon. Dagidi Andaye, said all council chairmen were fully aligned with the party’s leadership. Former National Women Leader, Hon. Stella Okotete, advocated for greater inclusion of women in party structures, stressing that women make up over half of the electorate.
Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, reaffirmed the loyalty of the legislative arm, promising continued support for both the Governor and the President.
Representing the Forum of Local Government Party Chairmen, Mr. Nobert Akachukwu described the Delta APC as “renewed and re-energized under the Governor’s MORE Agenda.”
The meeting ended on a celebratory note, with party leaders pledging renewed commitment to unity, loyalty, and the sustained consolidation of APC’s growing dominance in Delta State.
