The President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), Musa Nimrod, has commended the Under-18 Beach Volleyball female team for qualifying for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal.
Nimrod told NAN yesterday in Abuja that the team had a good performance in the just-concluded 2025 Africa Under-18 Beach Volleyball Youth Development Cup held in Banjul, Gambia.
Nimrod, who is also the president of the CAVB Beach Volleyball Commission, commended other participating teams for their effort, noting that the level of competition improved tremendously.
“The future of beach volleyball in Africa is very bright. With the right development, we can soon compete with top European nations,” he said.
The Nigerian team clinched the bronze medal at the championship on Saturday.
The team defeated Morocco 2-0 (21-7, 21-12) in the third-place match after a narrow 2-1 (16-21, 21-16, 15-12) loss to DR Congo in the semi-finals.
However, the Nigerian male team lost to Sierra Leone in a quarter-final match, as DR Congo finished in first place, while host Gambia placed second.
The female team won the gold medal in the Zone 3 CAVB championship in Côte d’Ivoire two weeks ago.
