Bishop Tasks Traditional Rulers on peace Building

The Catholic Archbishop of Jos, Most Rev. Mathew Audu, has called on traditional rulers in Plateau to promote peace in their various domains.
The archbishop made the call at a three-day high-level consultative engagement with traditional leaders on mediation and conflict transformation, on Wednesday in Jos.
The event was organised by the Justice Development and Peace Commission (JDPC), the social arm of the archdiocese.
The forum was organised in collaboration with the Strengthening Peace and Resilience in Nigeria (SPRiNG) and the Plateau State Peace Building Agency (PPBA).
Audu, represented by Monsignor Cletus Gotan, the Vicar General of the archdiocese, admonished traditional rulers to always promote peace through strategic media engagement and community resilience.
“As we gather to reflect, I want to call on our traditional rulers, the custodians of culture, to preach peace at all times.
“This forum has brought together traditional rulers and stakeholders to address pressing security challenges and peace building gaps in the state,”Audu said.
In a brief remarks, Dr Julie Sanda, the Director General of PPBA, highlighted the agency’s collaborative efforts in achieving its mandate.
She called for the support and collaboration of traditional rulers and other stakeholders towards a more peaceful and tranquil Plateau.
Adviser to the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Graham Gass, stressed the importance of dialogue and information sharing in promoting peaceful coexistence in the society.
On his part, Mr. Mujidang Sitdang, the Regional Programme Manager of SPRiNG, said that the project aimed at promoting peace in the state.
He outlined the project’s components to include, peace building, conflict resolution, climate management, and women engagement, among others.
