…Demand GCEO Ojulari’s sack, recall of sacked indigenes, reopening of PH Refinery

The Niger Delta Ethnic Nationalities Youth Leaders Forum (NDENYLF) yesterday barricaded the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) Towers in Abuja, demanding the resignation of the Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Bashir Ojulari, over alleged corruption and mismanagement.
The protesters, who arrived in large numbers, also insisted that Ojulari be replaced with an indigene of the Niger Delta, while calling for the immediate reopening of the Port Harcourt Refinery and the reinstatement of Niger Delta indigenes allegedly sacked under his watch.
Chanting solidarity songs and brandishing banners with inscriptions demanding Ojulari’s sack, the demonstrators blocked both the entrance and exit gates of the company, causing disruption to vehicular movement. Security operatives were on the ground, appealing for calm and trying to ease traffic congestion, while many motorists and NNPC staff had to park some distance away from the towers.
The demonstration, which lasted several hours, forced NNPC management into a closed-door meeting with representatives of the coalition of Niger Delta youth leaders.
Speaking after the meeting, Comrade Edet Eyo, President of the Oro Youth Movement (OYOM), said the management promised to look into their grievances, after which the coalition would consult with its members on whether to suspend further action.
