…State Showcases Potentials in Abuja, Brazil

By Jeremy Fregene

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration has intensified efforts to attract major local and international investors into Delta State, with a fresh push to channel resources into renewable energy, agriculture, solid minerals, trade, and commerce. The ultimate goal, officials say, is to create jobs, grow the economy, and put money in the hands of Deltans.

This was disclosed yesterday in Asaba by the State Economic Team, led by Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Emu, at a press conference ahead of the government’s strategic investors’ meetings in Abuja today and in Brazil in the coming days.

The team, comprising the Commissioners for Works (Rural Roads), Public Information, Agriculture, Trade and Investment, and the Chief Economic Adviser, said the Oborevwori administration had already turned Delta into a hub of attraction through massive infrastructure, security, and business-friendly policies.

According to Dr. Emu, Delta’s non-oil GDP now stands at about 55 percent, a sign of organic growth powered by agriculture, services, and commerce. “Delta has become the epicenter for investors. People migrate here daily because of our road network, security, and growing opportunities. With the power sector reforms, we are also positioning Delta to lead in renewable and fossil energy investments,” he said.

The SSG explained that the Abuja and Brazil trips are crucial for sealing deals in power, agriculture, and trade. “We want to change the narrative by creating jobs and empowering our people. Our meetings with the Rural Electrification Agency and international investors will unlock new opportunities for renewable energy and agro-industrial growth,” he added.

Commissioner for Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, noted that despite heavy investments in infrastructure, Delta remains solvent and positioned to support business growth. “Our airports, river ports, roads, and security make us the most attractive investment destination in the Niger Delta. Now we are taking the extra step to meet with serious investors and open new corridors of development,” Aniagwu said.

On his part, Chief Economic Adviser Dr. Barry Gbe revealed that the Abuja meeting would focus on the Distributed Access to Renewable Energy Scale-Up (DARES) project to expand rural electrification in Delta.

Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Val Arenyeka, highlighted Delta’s agricultural potential in cassava, rice, tomatoes, and livestock, stressing that the state would tap into Brazilian expertise to modernize its farming and processing systems. “For instance, renewable energy can revolutionize cassava processing across Delta communities,” he said.

Also, Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Mr. Samuel Oligida, said the state’s industrial policy and robust security architecture had created a safe, profitable environment for investors. “We have solid minerals, fertile markets, and a government that is deliberate about investment. Going to Brazil will be a harvest of investors for Delta,” he said.

The team maintained that Governor Oborevwori’s administration is deliberately pushing beyond oil, using infrastructure and peace-building to make Delta Nigeria’s most competitive investment destination.
