The Chairman of Epe Local Government, Surah Animashaun, has launched a transformative empowerment programme aimed at supporting 200 widows in the community.
The initiative, held at the council secretariat, was organised in partnership with the Shoulders of Support Charitable Organisation.
Animashaun described the scheme as more than a charitable gesture, calling it “a deliberate investment in the future of women who have demonstrated resilience in the face of life’s toughest challenges”.
She mentioned some of the food items distributed as; semovita, rice, garri (cassava flakes), spaghetti, custard, bread, clothes and cash gifts.
“The programme was designed to provide sustainable assistance that fosters self-reliance, dignity and long-term prosperity.
“In Epe, no one will be left behind, everyone will share in the dividends of good governance,” the LG boss said.
A representative of the charitable organisation, Mr Tunde Oludegun, stressed the deeper significance of the effort, noting that widows are pillars of strength in the community.
“Today, we stand beside them, not in sympathy, but in solidarity, equipping them with the tools to thrive and flourish,” he said.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Alogba Abeni, said the support would go a long way in transforming her small scale business.
Another beneficiary, Mrs Nafiu Atinuke, appreciated the council boss and the charitable organisation’s kind gesture, describing it as “a lifeline in challenging times”.
