…Rallies Governors, Party leaders Behind Diri Zoning Committe

By Franklin Adole
Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, has declared that all PDP governors are solidly behind the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) in the drive to reposition the party as a credible alternative to the current government.

Speaking on Thursday in Abuja at the inauguration of the party’s 46-member National Elective Convention Zoning Committee, Mohammed said the PDP has the pedigree, experience, and democratic legacy to restore Nigeria’s hope.

“We are united in our resolve to give Nigerians a credible alternative,” he said. “Our party has weathered storms, survived booby-traps, and covered long distances to arrive at this important milestone. The PDP has all the legacies and landmarks of democracy in Nigeria. The many years of our administration left fond memories for Nigerians, and the lessons from our setbacks will only make us better.”

The PDP Governors Forum Chairman praised the choice of Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, as chairman of the zoning committee, with Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal as vice chairman and Plateau State Governor Barr. Caleb Mutfwang as secretary.

He expressed confidence that the committee’s work ahead of the November 2025 convention would be fair, inclusive, and strategic in rebuilding the party’s strength.

“Our governors stand behind this project to unify Nigerians and bring the right leadership that will make them happy,” Mohammed assured. “With foresight and experience, we are moving forward in the right direction.”

Acting PDP National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, who inaugurated the committee, charged members to act quickly and decisively in producing a zoning formula that would strengthen unity and ensure a successful convention.

Responding on behalf of the committee, Governor Diri described the assignment as a huge responsibility and pledged to consult widely with stakeholders to ensure fairness and justice in its recommendations.

The PDP leadership maintains that the zoning process is a crucial step in its broader mission to rebuild internal structures and reconnect with Nigerians ahead of the next general elections.
