… Says While Nigerians are being kidnapped daily, Party is printing 2027 posters
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has lambasted the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government for turning a blind eye to the escalating suffering of Nigerians, while launching premature campaigns for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, in blatant violation of the Electoral Act.
In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC condemned what it described as the APC’s “illegal and insensitive” re-election campaign machinery, accusing the ruling party of mocking Nigerians’ pain with billboards, rallies, and endorsements when the country is facing its worst socio-economic crisis in decades.
“For months, the APC has been busy erecting billboards and staging endorsements for President Tinubu’s second term — two years ahead of the lawful campaign period,” the ADC said. “From Abuja to Port Harcourt, Minna to Kano and Akure, this brazen disregard for the Electoral Act and INEC’s explicit warnings only confirms what Nigerians already know — the APC does not respect the law and does not care about the people.”
The party said that while APC leaders chant “four more years,” Nigerians are grappling with skyrocketing inflation, collapsing infrastructure, and unprecedented levels of insecurity.
“The cost of living is suffocating ordinary Nigerians. Inflation has soared, with basic commodities like food, transport, and rent rising by over 60% since President Tinubu took office. The naira has plummeted from N461 to over N1,500 per dollar, destroying household savings and shuttering small businesses. Meanwhile, petrol now sells above N1,000 per litre, making daily survival a luxury for millions.”
ADC further warned that Nigeria is heading towards economic collapse, with a debt crisis that leaves little room for public welfare.
“The World Bank recently disclosed that Nigeria now spends more on debt servicing than it earns in revenue. Yet, this government continues its borrowing spree while doing little to expand revenue collection. Schools are failing, hospitals are in ruins, and our roads are death traps — but the APC is busy printing campaign posters,” the party stated.
On insecurity, ADC painted a grim picture of a nation under siege.
“In just three months — between April and June — over 1,865 civilians and 122 security personnel lost their lives to violent attacks. More than 3,100 security-related deaths were recorded in that period alone. Only last Friday, more than 50 Nigerians were kidnapped in Zamfara State’s Sabon Gari Dirmi community. Kidnapping has become an industry, yet the President is fixated on 2027 endorsements rather than fixing Nigeria’s security architecture,” the statement said.
The ADC also slammed the administration for the continual collapse of the national grid, accusing the APC of betraying its promise to deliver stable electricity.
“How many times has the grid collapsed this year? Nigerians are forced to live in darkness, with businesses shutting down or spending fortunes on diesel. Yet, instead of concrete solutions, the APC is deploying an army of online propagandists to sell lies and false hope.”
Calling for an immediate end to the “illegal campaign activities,” ADC demanded that the APC dismantle its premature election apparatus and face the urgent task of governance.
“Until the campaign window legally opens, every political billboard of the APC is a symbol of lawlessness and contempt for the Nigerian people. They should all be pulled down. The APC should focus on fixing the mess they have created instead of insulting Nigerians with empty slogans and premature politicking.”
ADC warned that no amount of propaganda or illegal campaigning will erase the daily realities of Nigerians, stating that the country is in shambles, and Nigerians know it.
