Four Farmers Remanded Over Alleged Conspiracy, Culpable Homicide

A Makurdi Chief Magistrates’ Court yesterday, remanded three farmers at a Correctional Centre over alleged conspiracy and culpable homicide.
Tyoyuha Nyam, Terhemen Mbese and Yerver Adu who reside at different places within Gwer-East Local Government Area of Benue State, were in court over the killing of two men, Benjamin and Sunday Akile.
The defendants are being charged with criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, attempt to commit culpable homicide and acts of terrorism.
The Chief Magistrate, Kelvin Mbanongun did not take the pleas of the defendants due to lack of jurisdiction.
Mbanongun adjourned the matter until Aug 14, 2025 for further mention.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Godwin Ato told the court that on July 7, the defendants and others now at large, invaded the residence of the victims and attacked them with arms.
Ato further said that the matter was reported at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Aliade, by a relative of the victims, John Akile.
He further said that the matter was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Makurdi on July 11.
The prosecutor also said that the defendants left another person, Jeremiah Akile with bullet and matchet injuries on his arms and neck.
He said that the offenses contravened Sections 97, 222, 230 of the Penal Code Law of Benue, 2004, and 4(1) of Abduction, Hostage Taking, Kidnapping, Secret Cult and Similar Activities Prohibition Law of Benue, 2017.
